Created attachment 297981 [details, diff] patch to build against 3.2.0
Based on information from http://communities.vmware.com/thread/334673 and source from here: http://pavlinux.ru/vmware/8.0.0/ I made a patch for vmware-modules-264.1 to build against 3.2.0 - see https://bugs.gentoo.org/attachment.cgi?id=297981
I can confirm that bug. However, at least on amd64, your patch applies fine, but seems to not fix the problem completely. It still does not build here: CC [M] /var/tmp/portage/app-emulation/vmware-modules-264.1/work/vmmon-only/common/phystrack.o CC [M] /var/tmp/portage/app-emulation/vmware-modules-264.1/work/vmmon-only/vmcore/moduleloop.o /var/tmp/portage/app-emulation/vmware-modules-264.1/work/vmmon-only/linux/iommu.c: In function 'IOMMU_AdjustMappings': /var/tmp/portage/app-emulation/vmware-modules-264.1/work/vmmon-only/linux/iommu.c:180:4: error: implicit declaration of function 'iommu_found' [-Werror=implicit-function-declaration] /var/tmp/portage/app-emulation/vmware-modules-264.1/work/vmmon-only/linux/iommu.c: In function 'IOMMU_RegisterDevice': /var/tmp/portage/app-emulation/vmware-modules-264.1/work/vmmon-only/linux/iommu.c:415:7: error: too few arguments to function 'iommu_domain_alloc' include/linux/iommu.h:68:29: note: declared here cc1: some warnings being treated as errors make[3]: *** [/var/tmp/portage/app-emulation/vmware-modules-264.1/work/vmmon-only/linux/iommu.o] Error 1 make[2]: *** [_module_/var/tmp/portage/app-emulation/vmware-modules-264.1/work/vmmon-only] Error 2 make[1]: *** [sub-make] Error 2 make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-3.2.0-gentoo' make: *** [vmmon.ko] Error 2 emake failed Maybe something else from here[1] is required, too? Created attachment 297997 [details, diff] Additional patch to propably fix build on amd64 This patch at least will build the modules on amd64 successfully if applied after Ognians patch. Please can someone with more insight here review it? Is this sufficient and correct?
I haven't had any time yet to try this myself but the patch provided below looks pretty clean. If anyone has the time to try it and report back, that would be great. http://weltall.heliohost.org/wordpress/2011/11/09/vmware-workstation-8-x-player-4-x-virtualbox-fix-for-linux-3-2/
*** Bug 397839 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
The patch is in the tree. Please sync, rebuild and test. Thanks.
Works fine for me, thanks!
Compiles and loads in the kernel fine here too. Thanks for the patch.
Created attachment 298117 [details] build-log.tar.bz2 kernel 3.2.0 : compilation successful kernel 3.1.7 : compilation failure
(In reply to comment #11) > Created attachment 298117 [details] > build-log.tar.bz2 > > kernel 3.2.0 : compilation successful > kernel 3.1.7 : compilation failure I fixed the patch. Lets do it again. Sync, rebuild and test. Thanks.
