I wonder why there is no mention of EVMS in the "Partitioning" chapter of the handbook/install guides. Gentoo currently is the only Linux distribution supporting installation into logical volumes, so I think this outstanding feature should be mentioned in the docs. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:
Primarily due to lack of resources. I don't know who has the knowledge to write up a guide on EVMS (first guide, only when it's matured it'll be incorporated in the installation instructions). It would be really appreciated if anyone could write up something.
AFAIK, Daniel Robbins has the knowledge. He wrote two articles about EVMS for IBM developerworks. OTOH, as a starting point, I think it would be sufficient to mention that it is possible to use EVMS (and LVM?) from the LiveCD and give a pointer to the original EVMS documentation and to those articles.
The support for EVMS and LVM2 is mentioned in the upcoming installation instructions. I'll close down this bug when released. Current draft: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/draft/handbook.xml
Released; EVMS is mentioned very briefly.
