Hi, I've been using openoffice-ximian recently, and have been encountering a problem that I cannot seem to be able to permanently fix. Out of the box (eg. when i run it for the first time after emerging), when I try to create a bulleted list, it just gives an indent - no bullet is shown. After doing some digging around, I found out that Bullets reference a font called StarSymbol, which does not exist on my system. I then used the font replacement table, replacing StarSymbol with Verdana. This worked splendidly on the computer (for a few days), but when I actually had occasion to print a document, I noticed that the font replacements weren't being applied to the printed document. I then tried using the Numbering/Bullets option in the Format menu, but the settings there only apply to the current bulleted list. Following this, I tried editing stuff in Stylist and also in Styles, but this had absolutely no effect on the document. In addition, I couldn't seem to be able to get Stylist and Styles settings to 'stick' across to other documents as well. Is this a known bug or are there any possible solutions that I could use? This small bug is really killing my productivity as I need to use bullets a lot =) By the way, I have been using the openoffice-ximian ebuilds nearly since they entered portage, and have been encountering this bug since then - bullets have not been very important up until recently though, and the font replacement table had appeared to work for a few months. Thanks (and especially, thanks for the great work on the openoffice ebuilds recently =) )
That's a known bug that I forgot about ;-) Will fix this in the ebuild Anyway if you don't want to recompile the whole thing just go look into /usr/portage/distfiles, there should be a package called ooo-build-x.x.x (depending on the version you got installed) Inside there is a fonts dir, in which you will find a file called opens___.ttf . Copy this to /usr/share/fonts/ximian-openoffice (you will have to create the dir). Bullets should now work fine (at least they do for me)
A little correction, place the font in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype/ seems like this will be the path it will be installed to in the future...
the fix is now in portage, thanks for reporting
Thank you very much for the quick fix :)
