strace of 'iwlist wlan0 scanning'

same bug as http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=541648

I have the same strace output (which I'll attach).  Stabilizing the newest wireless-tools (30_pre9) fixed it for me.  I suggest that we either stabilize the latest or backport the patch from Debian.

I don't know about the "tries to allocate 2 ebibytes of memory" - the strace mentions 18446744071562072064 bytes, which according to sci-calculators/units amounts to about 16 exbibytes. :)

newer (fixed version) in tree as stable.  marking fixed
