gdbserver is a dead package. sys-devel/gdb includes gdbserver support.
Last I checked (I check every few months since it rarely seemed to change), gdbserver's code didn't change from the version that is in portage right now. And since when does sys-devel/gdb allow a gdbserver-only build? If the answer is "it doesn't", then please go away. BTW this should have been assigned to x86 arch team, as I have no x86 boxes.
there's no need to be a dick if you want gdb[client,server] support, then file a bug requesting it. if you aren't interested in actually working with people, then remove the gdbserver package from the "toolchain" herd.
Well, don't say it's a dead package without even looking at it first please. It's still set to toolchain because I use the exact same patchset. In the mean time this is for x86 arch team (and I bumped it to 7.3.1 since this time there _are_ changes).
considering it blocks gdb and hasn't been updated in a long time, it appears to be dead. there's no reason for it to exist at all since gdb already provides everything that it does.
gdb itself now supports USE=client/server. i've dropped toolchain from this gdbserver package -- it really never should have existed in the first place. if you want feature requests, file proper bugs in the future.
So what should we do with this? The latest version has missing files. Please fix and indicate if you still want this keyworded ~x86. Thanks.
