Description Vladimir Romanov (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-12-21 11:15:14 UTC
Written:
The default profile will provide you with a Linux 2.6-based system. This is the recommended default, but you have the option of choosing another profile too.

I think, that default profile will be 3.0.x-based system.

Reproducible: Always
Comment 1 nm (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-12-22 06:32:24 UTC
not for ppc and ppc64. the profile sets stable keywords, and right now there's no stable 3.x kernel for ppc/ppc64. still waiting on bug #387047.

need to wait a bit longer for those arch teams to get their stuff stabilized.
Comment 2 Vladimir Romanov (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-12-22 17:09:22 UTC
But we can change this in x86/amd64 handbooks? Or we can change it only at once?
Comment 3 Sven Vermeulen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-12-26 14:59:27 UTC
What do you mean with "default profile"? I'm not fully aware of any setting in the Gentoo profiles about kernel versions, at least not one that is only providing a 2.6-based system.

right. the only thing profile sets is arch keyword, which is the stable one for most cases. that keyword dictates which of the available kernels users can install right off the bat...and most will choose gentoo-sources, since that's what's listed in most of our handbooks.

I'm not sure why it mentions it as-is. What if we just drop that paragraph?

probably would make more sense without it. since stable keyword doesn't really matter when you have 3 available kernel slots in that keyword (2.4, 2.6, 3.x).

Paragraph updated. Thanks for reporting!
