CFLAGS="-O2 -march=k8 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -ggdb" -ggdb is the problem... maybe we should check for that in the ebuild. You can roughly double the space requirement if you use this flag. Alternatively, build only with -g, that should still provide reasonable debug info.
Setting ggdb on greedy apps is way to hell, this is not supported setup. If you build with -g it needs 9 gb with -ggdb 16.
