Description FieldySnuts 2004-01-25 17:52:03 UTC
net-analyzer/driftnet-0.1.6 when run complains:

driftnet: this version of driftnet was compiled without display support
driftnet: use the -a option to run it in adjunct mode

-a doesn't seem to be very useful...

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild R ] net-analyzer/driftnet-0.1.6 +gtk

 # etcat -u driftnet
[ Colour Code : set unset ]
[ Legend : (U) Col 1 - Current USE flags ]
[ : (I) Col 2 - Installed With USE flags ]

 U I [ Found these USE variables in : net-analyzer/driftnet-0.1.6 ]
+ + gtk : Adds support for x11-libs/gtk+ (The GIMP Toolkit)

I would have expected +gtk to include display support.

Maybe you want to be running driftnet-gtk?
Comment 2 Mr. Bones. (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-01-26 14:50:47 UTC
Yep, just looked more closely at this. The non-gtk version of driftnet is
intentionally compiled without gui whild driftnet-gtk is the gui version.

Marking this invalid.

I find this response confusing. There is no driftnet-gtk package in portage at this time, there is only one source download available from the project website, and searching for driftnet-gtk in Google seems to indicate that any such name was specific to Gentoo.

If there was a driftnet-gtk package, there isn't one now. And the gtk USE flag doesn't add the GUI support. I'd reopen this bug pending clarification of the matter, if I had the proper permissions. ;)

indeed i think this should be reopened
