Trying to use new pmount on an X11 terminal I get: You are not physically logged in and your system administrator does not allow remote users to run pumount, aborting If something like ConsoleKit is required now, we'd appreciate some postinst message at least. If it's actually limited to real ttys, I guess the config default should be changed for pmount to behave like it used to.
From /etc/pmount.conf: # If not_physically_logged_allow is true, then users don't need to be # attached to a real TTY for using pmount and pumount. This used to be # the default for older releases of pmount. not_physically_logged_allow = no imho, there is no bug and the new default is more secure and should stay like this

I can see you forgot to assign it.
well, I don't have strong opinion on this so I'm sure you will be pleased with this: +*pmount-0.9.99_alpha-r1 (08 Dec 2011) + + 08 Dec 2011; Samuli Suominen <ssuominen@gentoo.org> + +pmount-0.9.99_alpha-r1.ebuild: + Restore default value for not_physically_logged_allow (change from "no" to + "yes") wrt #393633 by Michał Górny
