Also experiencing this. I use the same OS image on all of my servers, and it seems that servers I imaged three weeks ago were able to install libzen-0.4.23 without a problem, yet newer servers can't. Same kernel and same hardware between servers that work and those that don't. Oddly, on the servers that do work, I'm still able to reinstall 0.4.23 without a problem. I've gone through and diff'd "eix -I" between my working and non-working servers, and short of what should be unrelated packages (smartmontools, libpcap), everything appears to be the same.

Unfortunately I've been unable to reproduce this as well.
Comment 4 keanu 2011-12-07 07:30:59 UTC
I spent a good chunk of the day trying to track this bug down. I noticed in the media-libs/libzen changelog that the ebuild was updated on Nov 27/28 as a bugfix for https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=392155. I managed to find an old copy of the ebuild (attached below) which seems to allow the compile to run without any problems. I did notice a difference though:

The new ebuild fails at;
/tmp/portage/media-libs/libzen-0.4.23/work/ZenLib/Project/GNU/Library/../../../Source/ZenLib/File.cpp:441: error: no ‘bool ZenLib::File::Truncate(ZenLib::int64u)’ member function declared in class ‘ZenLib::File’

While the old one gives a warning in the same place:
/tmp/portage/media-libs/libzen-0.4.23/work/ZenLib/Project/GNU/Library/../../../Source/ZenLib/File.cpp: In member function ‘bool ZenLib::File::Truncate(ZenLib::int64u)’:
/tmp/portage/media-libs/libzen-0.4.23/work/ZenLib/Project/GNU/Library/../../../Source/ZenLib/File.cpp:458: warning: ignoring return value of ‘int truncate(const char*, __off64_t)’, declared with attribute warn_unused_result

Comment 6 Ole Christensen 2011-12-07 08:14:22 UTC
The problem seems to be the order of the C compiler's include path. On my system (where the compile fails) the compiler includes the previously installed /usr/include/ZenLib/File.h (from 0.4.22) which does not have a File::Truncate(). It should include the File.h from the build path, i.e. ../ZenLib/File.h instead.

So, the right steps to reproduce this issue seem to be

emerge =media-libs/libzen-0.4.22
emerge =media-libs/libzen-0.4.23

Hope this leads in the right direction.

Ok this makes more sense now. Should be fixed in CVS.
Comment 8 Ole Christensen 2011-12-08 06:34:10 UTC
Works for me now. Thanks a lot.
