I almost forgot to tell I have the exact same problem when booting with the official 1.4 release cd and compiling a 2.6.x kernel
WHICH beta livecd (provide the date on the livecd)? everything is beta right now dude, there's a bunch of versions online. also, I need the output of lsmod I need to know if you're using the tg3 or bcm driver -Brad
The livecd I was talking about was the one from 12/21/2003. I've tried using the latest one (01/24/2004) but it hangs on boot (even if I boot using "gentoo-nofb idle=poll nousb"). Maybe I should create another bug for that... lsmod says I'm running the b44 driver. Funny thing is I got it working with a 2.6.1 kernel (gentoo-dev-sources) when compiled as a module.
Yay I finally found a solution to make this network card working right off booting from the livecd ! I booted using the official 2004.0 livecd with the following parameters : gentoo acpi=off noapic nodhcp
