Description Ian 2004-01-23 20:12:06 UTC
My emailservers have both IPv6 and IPv4 adresses in DNS (imap.stacken.kth.se for example). My Gentoo workstation is set to use IPv6.

Evolution (1.4) from portage refuses to speak to the mail server unless it has a route to it over v6. If the local end doesn't have a v6 route to the world (only fe80 adresses, no tunnel up etc) or the remote end won't speak v6 (IMAP/SMTP daemon not listening on v6, v6 interface not up), Evolution will report this as a communication failure _even though the other end is reachable over IPv4_

I had the same problem. Had to USE="-ipv6" emerge evolution .
This is probably a upstream bug, but maybe you guys in gnome herd have a better way to contact the upstream developers.

I found this. No idea if it works with evolution 1.4.5 in gentoo.

http://cvs.gnome.org/bonsai/cvsblame.cgi?file=evolution%2Fe-util/ChangeLog&rev=&root=/cvs/gnome

that patch is already in evolution, and should of been included in 1.4.6, can you try that version first?
