Thanks a lot for your report! The next ProFTPD 1.3.4* commit will introduce USE=dso which builds mod_dso into ProFTPD. Please notice that all modules will still be built into the ProFTPD binary even with USE=dso. You will be able to load external modules which were built by another package.
