Description Brian Harring (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-01-23 00:32:33 UTC
The summary pretty much says it all. Looks like qvwm links against alsa-lib-0.5*, if so, I'd wonder about the future of the ebuild since the package src hasn't been updated since 2002 from what I've gathered googling.

As is, this is broke in compilation against 0.9.8 and 1.0.0_rc2-r1; it may very well just be that the configure test is broken, but I haven't had time to check into it further.

Right. The author of the wm left development a while ago (he graduated
from his university). There isn't anyone to take over its development.

I confirmed that qvwm failed to compile with alsa-0.9 and alsa-1.0 (I
tested qvwm with alsa-0.5 before). I looked at qvwm's source code a
little and saw not only configure test is broken but also it needs
to be rewritten to adapt new alsa API.

I'll remove alsa IUSE flag for the time being (--with-alsa and
--with-esd are exclusive and we have both alsa and esd USE flag
enabled by profiles, so it only changes one default to another).
esd can be built with alsa, so I hope it's all right with everyone
who uses qvwm.

Removed alsa IUSE flag from the ebuild.

The fact it was broken against alsa-lib-0.9*, and never caught makes me wonder if people are even using it (speak up if you are)- none the less, removing the alsa flag is a nice fix, one I hadn't thought of :)
