Description Fabian Köster 2011-11-18 15:11:21 UTC
When I open a specific OpenDocument-Text file in LibreOffice 3.4.3 and scroll down, at some point Xorg freezes. I can move the mousepointer but the user interface does not react anymore. I can reproduce it every time with this document (i cannot post it because it is classified, sorry).

No output in dmesg or Xorg.0.log.

This bug apparently also exists in current Ubuntu releases, seems to be related to intel graphics driver: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/797662

app-office/libreoffice-3.4.3.2-r1 was built with the following:
USE="bash-completion branding dbus gstreamer gtk java (multilib) odk opengl pdfimport templates vba (-aqua) -binfilter -custom-cflags -debug -eds -gnome -graphite -kde (-kdeenablefinal) -ldap -mysql -nsplugin -python -test -webdav" LINGUAS="de -en_GB -en_ZA -es -fr -hu -it"
CFLAGS="-march=core2 -mtune=generic -pipe"
CXXFLAGS="-march=core2 -mtune=generic -pipe"

x11-base/xorg-server-1.10.4-r1 was built with the following:
USE="ipv6 kdrive (multilib) nptl udev xorg -dmx -doc -minimal -static-libs -tslib -xnest -xvfb"
LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1 -Wl,--as-needed -Wl,-z,lazy"

x11-drivers/xf86-video-intel-2.16.0 was built with the following:
USE="dri (multilib) -sna"
LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1 -Wl,--as-needed -Wl,-z,lazy"

Reproducible: Always

I cannot reproduce the bug anymore after upgrading to

x11-drivers/xf86-video-intel-2.17.0

Seems the bug is fixed there.

btw, my graphics hardware is: Intel HD Graphics 3000

Looks like bug #390847 too.

I do not think so, xorg crashes, not LibreOffice.

Damn!

I downgraded to x11-drivers/xf86-video-intel-2.15.0-r1 to see if the bug is present with this version: no freeze.

Then I upgraded back to x11-drivers/xf86-video-intel-2.16.0 but now I do not see any freezes with this version, too.

So it is probably not as easy as I thougt.

This is bug for x11 team, office just happen to trigger it (also ftr it is not reproducable on suse in anyway).
Comment 7 Chí-Thanh Christopher Nguyễn gentoo-dev 2011-11-25 22:42:09 UTC
If it crashes with git master too (xf86-video-intel-9999 ebuild in the x11 overlay), try to get a backtrace from X. Also you may want to report the bug upstream at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/ so the developers are aware of the problem.
Comment 8 Fabian Köster 2012-02-03 15:12:56 UTC
I did not see this bug anymore for a long time now, currently using
x11-drivers/xf86-video-intel-2.17.0-r3.

I am closing this bug now, if anyone is able to reproduce it again, please reopen.
