Description Fabian Köster 2011-11-18 11:23:38 UTC
I am using the Xfce 4.8 Desktop with Nautilus file manager. When clicking on "Network" in the sidebar I get the message:

Could not display "network:///".

Nautilus cannot handle "network" locations.

gnome-base/nautilus-2.32.2.1-r1 was built with the following:
USE="(multilib) -doc -gnome (-introspection) -test -xmp"

gnome-base/gvfs-1.6.7-r1 was built with the following:
USE="archive avahi bash-completion bluetooth cdda gdu gnome-keyring http (multilib) samba udev -doc -fuse -gnome -gphoto2 -ios (-prefix)"

Reproducible: Always

To support the special GNOME "network:///" url in gvfs-based applications like Nautilus, you need to build gvfs with USE=gnome.

(Note: the above comment appplies to gvfs-1.6.x; in 1.10.x, support for the "network:///" url is always enabled.)

Ah thanks, it works now. I thought I had tested this..

If the current version does not need 'gnome' flag to enable the network:/// uri it is ok, but otherwise I would say this should be documented, it is not really obvious to me that network depends on 'gnome' use flag.

Good idea!

I have changed the documentation for the gnome USE flag in gnome-base/gvfs to say "Enable support for reading settings from <pkg>gnome-base/gconf</pkg> and for the special network:/// URL"
