The summary pretty much says it. The command runs without displaying any errors, but fails to list files that are larger than the upper bound of 32bit signed integers. I contacted the developer initially, suspecting an upstream bug. He asked if Gentoo's version uses the following CFLAGS: CFLAGS=-O4 -Wall -DLINUX -D_LARGEFILE64_SOURCE -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 Looking at the ebuild for version 1.6.0, those are not the CFLAGS used by Gentoo. I tried downloading the source from ftp://mama.indstate.edu/linux/tree/tree-1.6.0.tgz and rebuilding by hand with the aforementioned CFLAGS (those are also the default ones for Linux in the Makefile, but for some reason not used in the ebuild). The hand-built version listed the large file just fine, so this seems to be a Gentoo bug--in a stable ebuild, no less. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Create a test directory with some subdirectories and some files in those subdirectories. 2. Make one of the files in the subdirectories over 2147483648 (2^32) bytes 3. Run tree in the test directory Actual Results: The file exceeding 2^32 bytes in size is not listed along with the other files in the subdirs. Ehh, I meant tree fails for files larger than 2^31 bytes, not 2^32.
fixed. resync and re-emerge tree to get the fix. thanks.
