Description raffaele spazzoli 2004-01-22 08:17:21 UTC
I'm installing gentoo on a vmware box starting from a knoppix live cd.
the bootstrap.sh script fails while compiling
sys-deve/gettext-0.12.1
this is the error message:
{standard input}: Assembler messages:
{standard input}:271: Error: suffix or operands invalid for `movd'
{standard input}:747: Error: suffix or operands invalid for `movd'
make[3]: *** [loadmsgcat.lo] Error 1

sicne it has something to do with the assembler compilation, may be it may be related with the emulation layer introduced by vmware. Anyway I have configured make.conf using the output of cat /proc/cpuinfo as privided by the knoppix live cd

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
I followed the step described in the online installaion guide.
I'm installing gentoo on a vmware box starting from a knoppix live cd.
I get the error running the script/bootstrap.sh

Actual Results:
I get the error decribed in the additiona information

Expected Results:
it should have completed the boot strap script

Comment 1 Martin Schlemmer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-01-23 09:20:44 UTC
Does it do p4 emulation? With this:

  CFLAGS="-O3 -mcpu=i686 -march=pentium4 -funroll-loops -pipe"

it should effective still use p4 upcodes. Think you could try
with -march=i686?
Comment 2 raffaele spazzoli 2004-01-26 06:10:19 UTC
it worked with -march=i686.
thanks
