to circumvent the proble (the complaint about invalid item) look in ~/.gnupg/gpg.conf if its set there - > remove it but i doesnt solve the problem that BZIP2 is not listed in COMPRESSION section of gpg --version
If you build static you probably won't get many features... But this was easy to fix, gnupg-2.0.19-r1. Thanks!
