Downloaded stage3-20040117 and portage-20040121.
I can emerge any application, except any kernel.

Problem seems to be solved by emerging hotplug before emerging kernel.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:

Please provide more Information:
- what machine (maybe PCMCIA-Hardware?)
- what happens / doesn't happen exactly)
- maybe post some output

Sorry, it was late this morning.

HW is: Acer Travelmate 313T (p266mmx). Network is on a PCMCIA Card.
I booted from Slackware bare.i+install.*+pcmcia.dsk Floppy.
Network is functioning, I've downloaded stage3, portage, bzip2, etc.
Everything is fine with stage3-20030911 and any portage.
With latest experimental stage3 I found problem (used 2 portage - 20040120 and 20040121 - and emerge-webrsync too).
If I launch "emerge -k gentoo-source" before emerging hotplug, dependecies check failed. After emerging hotplug I was able to emerge both gentoo-source and gentoo-dev-source.
Just now I'm emerging genkernel.

Did you apply any USE-Flags? Please post the output of "emerge info"
Comment 4 Luca 2004-01-22 13:35:24 UTC
I didn't modify any flag. (I'm quite new to Gentoo)
Actually notebook is emerging latest package... I will post later more info.

What a shame, kernel ops after reboot...
Ok, let's go back to official stage.
Comment 6 John Davis (zhen) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-01-26 14:28:30 UTC
Looks like a GRP problem to me (emerge -k). Were you using GRP to install the sources?
Comment 7 Luca 2004-01-26 16:20:41 UTC
Using "-k" is an error: I don't have GPR available, I download and compile everything. BTW, I've abandoned the problem: actually I don't have the time...
