Description Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2011-10-27 20:40:41 UTC
This is an old problem I am seeing for a long time and it's still there with latest polkit-gnome and Gnome 2.32 (I cannot test with Gnome 3 now)

Not sure if it's a polkit-gnome/gnome-session/gdm problem but, when I am logged in as other user in a console, polkit-gnome shows me a dialog asking me for root password when I try to poweroff from Gnome 2.32 session. But, if I click "Cancel", systems shuts down normally :-/

Reproducible: Always

Try removing "consolekit-0.4.1-shutdown-reboot-without-policies.patch" from sys-auth/consolekit. Rebuild it, restart it, try again.

IMHO, we should ditch this patch.

In any case, the $summary is very misleading as the bug is NOT in polkit-gnome in any case. It's a bug in whatever called polkit-gnome and asked for privileges for shutting down, even though it already had them.

Sadly, it's the same :(

Maybe other gnome team members can check this problem in Gnome3 (as I don't think this will be ever fixed in Gnome2)

I've seen the same thing with Gnome 3.

Not sure if maybe this should be reported to upstream then :|

Try latest gdm first, then report it as a bug of gdm to gnome's bugzilla

Please try with gdm-3.6.
