I cannot reproduce this. Does it also fail in versions 2.3.23 and 2.4.2?

I can try those later (part of arch testing), but could you make sure you also try with USE=valgrind (and in general, USE flags that I've used in the build log)?

build.log.gz for 2.3.23 (also failed)

Both this and previous log are with valgrind-3.6.1 by the way.
Comment 4 Ulrich Müller gentoo-dev 2011-10-25 07:44:57 UTC
I did my tests with USE=valgrind of course, and for 2.3.24-r1 I get:

Zile: 87 pass(es) and 0 failure(s)
Emacs: 87 pass(es) and 0 failure(s)
echo ./lisp-tests/zile-only/*.el | srcdir=. builddir=. EMACS= VALGRIND="/usr/bin/valgrind -q --error-exitcode=1 --leak-check=full" xargs ./run-lisp-tests
Zile: 7 pass(es) and 0 failure(s)
Emacs: 0 pass(es) and 0 failure(s)

The reason why I was asking about 2.3.23 is that your log for 2.3.24-r1 showed valgrind complaining about a memory leak in function compact_path, which happens to be the function that is modified by the single patch that we apply.

Could you test with 2.4.2 too please?

valgrind-3.6.1-r1 here, which shouldn't make any difference.

The issue looks like this long-standing bug in nss_parse_service_list to me: <http://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=2314>

Tested now and it passes tests. How about pushing it to stable?

> Tested now and it passes tests.

Darn, between 2.4.1 and 2.4.2 upstream sneakily introduced another configure option. In addition to --with-valgrind (what the ebuild did so far) one must now also specify --enable-valgrind to enable tests with valgrind. And if I do that, then most of the tests fail. Looks like it doesn't play nice with boehm-gc.

Therefore, I've removed the valgrind flag in 2.4.2.

> How about pushing it to stable?

Let's give it another week. There were extensive changes from the 2.3 to the 2.4 series.
