I cannot reproduce this. Does it also fail in versions 2.3.23 and 2.4.2?

I did my tests with USE=valgrind of course, and for 2.3.24-r1 I get: Zile: 87 pass(es) and 0 failure(s) Emacs: 87 pass(es) and 0 failure(s) echo ./lisp-tests/zile-only/*.el | srcdir=. builddir=. EMACS= VALGRIND="/usr/bin/valgrind -q --error-exitcode=1 --leak-check=full" xargs ./run-lisp-tests Zile: 7 pass(es) and 0 failure(s) Emacs: 0 pass(es) and 0 failure(s) The reason why I was asking about 2.3.23 is that your log for 2.3.24-r1 showed valgrind complaining about a memory leak in function compact_path, which happens to be the function that is modified by the single patch that we apply. Could you test with 2.4.2 too please?

In addition to --with-valgrind (what the ebuild did so far) one must now also specify --enable-valgrind to enable tests with valgrind. And if I do that, then most of the tests fail. Looks like it doesn't play nice with boehm-gc. Therefore, I've removed the valgrind flag in 2.4.2. > How about pushing it to stable? Let's give it another week. There were extensive changes from the 2.3 to the 2.4 series.
