When I tried to emerge imagemagick-6.7.2-6 on my system, it failed with an error message about aclocal. This is aclocal.out: ***** aclocal ***** ***** PWD: /var/tmp/portage/media-gfx/imagemagick-6.7.2.6/work/ImageMagick-6.7.2-6 ***** aclocal -I m4 configure.ac:17: error: Autoconf version 2.64 or higher is required configure.ac:17: the top level autom4te-2.63: /usr/bin/m4 failed with exit status: 63 aclocal-1.11: autom4te failed with exit status: 63 Reproducible: Didn't try Emerging autoconf by hand (i.e., updating it) apparently fixed this problem.
Could you please attach the build.log and your emerge --info output?
This version was removed from the tree almost two weeks ago, but I assume that the latest version has similar requirements.

I would like to stress that it is only worth pursuing this bug if the problem is indeed some forgotten dependency in the imagemagick ebuild. (Especially given the fact that there was an unproblematic workaround.) If it isn't, then the problem is in my system, which does have some broken binary dependencies. (Which I am currently trying to go about fixing.) And indeed, another package I have tried to install has pulled in a new gcc version (which, however, failed to build because of a broken binary dependency). Nevertheless, I have tried to provide the information you rightly demanded, but as I hinted, please consider whether it's worth considering before considering it.
