Marked as critical as I cannot install system...

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. follow gentoo handbook on intel core2 duo trying to install amd64 profile
2. get to the emerge syslog-ng
3. fails on emerge dev-libs/glib
Actual Results:

Expected Results:
glib compiled, installed and working

Don't know if that matters, but I am trying to install from newest Ubuntu 64 (mainly, because I can get wifi connection working with no fiddling with configuration).

What does your 'emerge --info' say?

Comment 3 Rafał Mużyło 2011-10-20 20:44:33 UTC
Attach full build log, one captured while 'V=1'.

Usually, failures as such are parallel make/ccache failures, though you don't have ccache installed, so just try with '-j1'.
Comment 4 elmopl 2011-10-20 21:08:54 UTC
I think that for a parallel problem it is a bit too consistent.
Even though, I changed the MAKEOPTS to -j1 to make sure, and the error still persists and is exactly the same.
Comment 5 elmopl 2011-10-20 21:11:31 UTC
And what exactly do you mean by "while V=1"?
Comment 6 Rafał Mużyło 2011-10-20 23:17:31 UTC

> And what exactly do you mean by "while V=1"?

Turning of silent make by something like "V=1 emerge -1 dev-libs/glib".
Comment 7 elmopl 2011-10-21 16:59:24 UTC
I tried to add build log as attachment, but when I press "submit" nothing happens. No error, no action, no anything.
So I pasted it to pastebin: http://pastebin.com/t9WNLbMN
Comment 8 Rafał Mużyło 2011-10-21 18:10:04 UTC
OK, my little mistake, but I thought that was just a copy-pasto.

Is this some kind of a Prefix install, cause '/data/usr/lib64/libresolv.a' looks odd ?

The problem here is that it's supposed to find /usr/lib64/libresolv.so, not this one.

As for attaching problems:
- don't use pastebins for bugzilla reports
- there's a chance the log was a bit too big and you simply needed to compress it
Comment 9 elmopl 2011-10-21 19:21:28 UTC
The "data" folder is my solution to solve problem of partitioning the disk.
I have one partition on which I hold the "home", "lib", "opt", "usr" and "var" folders. And I mount this partition at /data and just created symlinks (/home -> /data/home etc.).

So the /data/lib64 is in fact /lib64.
Comment 10 elmopl 2011-10-21 20:28:56 UTC
One correction, the /lib64 actually isn't a link.
The /usr/ is a link to /data/usr so /usr/lib64 goes to /data/usr/lib64.
Comment 11 elmopl 2011-10-21 20:32:35 UTC
And one more thing. The libresolv.so is in /lib64 not /usr/lib64.
Comment 12 elmopl 2011-10-21 20:52:00 UTC
So it appears that ebuild/configure searches relative paths (which is rather odd).
The solution was rather simple. Instead of:
ln -s /data/usr /usr
now I do:
mount --bind /usr/data /usr

And this way it compiled nicely.
