I think we should support this device, probably by adding a group rtc and the appropriate permissions in console.perms, any thoughts ?
most of us already have the device as far as i'm aware. why do you want to change the ownership/permission on it? the only reason to change permissions I can see as worthwhile is to allow everybody to read from it.
What do you mean by have ? The default setup is root.root 620, but, to take advantadge of it, you need at least read permission for the user, and perhaps read/write for rtc members. I just find it more sensible defaults, but maybe there's some security risk i overlooked (nothing that would prevents having an rtc group anyway).
mplayer wants to read from this device, so: /etc/udev/permissions.d/50-udev.permissions: -misc/rtc:root:root:0660 +misc/rtc:root:root:0664 would allow that. What is the security risk of reading from rtc?
should not be a problem, i'll change it for the next version of udev.
