Almost sure, this is a dupe of bug 387285:
gcc needs much more memory for compiling, I would guess *at least* 2GB,
probably 4GB or more.

eh this is something strange which means you cant have latest gcc on a   system with 512 mb ram ?>

You ran out of RAM. Setting MAKEOPTS=-j1 might help. If not, get more RAM.
