Description george 2004-01-19 05:24:32 UTC
With openoffice-bin-1.1.0, the Autoresponse file for user isntallation <spelling> ;) contains:
"JavaSupport=none"

I need Java to use jdbc and the way I made it work was to change this to:
"JavaSupport=preinstalled_or_none"

This looks easy enough to do with "USE java", but any way to get Java enabled without needing to edit either the autoresponse file or the ebuild will be fine by me.

As I am not using the java functionality, could you give me an easy example how to try out if this works?

I've just spent an annoying few hours trying to work out a test for this.

I created a new user and tried as many options as possible. I obviously didn't test this properly before because the JavaSupport setting seems to make no difference at all.

Whichever way I set it, java support doesn't get installed by itself but I am still permitted to add it later. It still makes sense to me (theoretically that is) to change the setting in the autoresponse file according to whether java is in USE. However as I can't prove it makes any difference if you prefer to forget it I can hardly complain ;)

For future reference, here are details of my setup and info I gleaned from www.oooforums.org.

You can set up java after installation by running /opt/OpenOffice.org<ver>/program/jvmsetup and this is apparently supposed to use JAVA_HOME to find any installed jvm.

I have JAVA_HOME=/opt/blackdown-jdk-1.4.1 but no installed jvm is found by jvmsetup. Browsing to /opt/blackdown-jdk-1.4.1 I can complete the setup and then use jdbc so it looks good to me.

Apparently jvmsetup is picky about which jvm it will recognise, with a strange preference for Sun ;) I'm not about to install other jvms to test this though.

I guess the JavaSupport setting would have some effect if jvmsetup recognises a jvm but we may never know... Thanks anyway.

Does it still not work for you? Cause actually the autoresponse file should be fine that way.

Works for me the way it is, so closing
