If I go to an pdf-URL (e.g. http://www.stanford.edu/group/e145/cgi-bin/winter/drupal/upload/handouts/Four_Steps.pdf, I took this URL only because google find it at the first places when looking for "epiphany" and "pdf") with epiphany, I see the source text (%PDF-1.4 %...) of the pdf file in epiphany and libreoffice is started.
