Description Gino McCarty 2011-10-11 06:27:45 UTC
[ebuild N ~] kde-base/attica-4.7.2 USE="(-aqua) -debug (-kdeenablefinal)" 0 kB
[ebuild N ~] kde-base/kdebase-runtime-meta-4.7.2 USE="(-aqua) -handbook -semantic-desktop" 0 kB
[ebuild N ~] kde-base/kdebase-startkde-4.7.2 USE="(-aqua) (-kdeenablefinal) -wallpapers" 0 kB

It doesn't seem to me that kdebase-startkde should require kdebase-runtime-meta in order to install.. I want to run my kde without several apps such as attica that are bundled into the runtime meta..

Can these be seperated (kdebase-startkde-4.7.2 dependency on kdebase-runtime-meta-4.7.2)???

Thanks!

Err.. no.

But if you disagree, please go ahead and put kde-base/kdebase-runtime-meta-0 in /etc/portage/profile/package.provided, but do NOT report any dependency issues you may (and you will) encounter afterwards.

Ok well, maybe you can explain this dependency to me? since the files in each package are not actually "dependent" on eachother..

The issue is that upstream developers assume everyone has kdebase-runtime-meta installed (and more), so if you don't have it, applications may (and will) fail in silent or inexplicable ways.
