Description Viktor Kuzmin 2011-09-30 11:23:14 UTC
HP Envy 15 (1150es) notebook.
USB 2.0 ports are recognized, but nothing happens when I plug any device. No error messages in log.
USB 3.0 port is working OK.
Also rmmod xhci_hcd or ehci_hcd leads to one cpu core spin lock.

It's all ok with gentoo-sources-2.6.32 kernel from portage.
Also it's all working in case kernel is starting with something plugged into USB 2.0 port.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Run gentoo HP Envy 15.
2. Plug something to USB 2.0 port.
Actual Results:
*) Plugged device is not working with gentoo-sources-2.6.38 or later
*) Plugged device is working ok with gentoo-sources-2.6.32
*) Plugged device is working ok with gentoo-sources-2.6.38 or later if something was plugged to USB 2.0 port during boot.

Expected Results:
Plugged device is reconized and working in any case.

Portage 2.2.0_alpha59 (default/linux/x86/10.0/desktop/gnome, gcc-4.5.3, glibc-2.13-r4, 3.0.4-gentoo-r1-kva i686)

Comment 2 Viktor Kuzmin 2011-10-07 10:10:10 UTC
Still available on 3.0.6
Comment 3 Stratos Psomadakis (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-10-07 10:19:55 UTC
Can you try with 3.1-rc9, and maybe with a 2.6.37 kernel? If you can find the latest kernel that works prior to 2.6.38, it'll be easier to do a bisect and find the guilty commit (if any).

Can you also provide the kernel log when rmmoding [xhci|ehci]_hcd, with the spin lock issue?

Thanks.

Unfortunatelly this notebook is dead and I'm not able to peform tests more...
Comment 5 Mike Pagano gentoo-dev 2011-11-01 15:12:23 UTC
ok, assuming dead means dead and gone.

Reopen if this laptop comes back to life and you still have issues.
