media-libs/libpng-1.4.8-r2 introduced slot "1.4",
but some ebuild depend on slot "0":

Did you mask libpng 1.5 ?
If you did, this bug is INVALID.
Ditto, if you're mixing stable and unstable.

yep, media-libs/libpng-1.4.8-r2 is unstable,

Stable is media-libs/libpng-1.4.8, and it is slot "0"

Mixing stable and unstable is at your own discretion - meaning: any such bugs are your own.

1.4.8-r2 has "1.4" as it's binary only - in unstable packages either build and work with 1.5 or are in the process of getting fixed.
