The KDE language packages aren't mirrored on the Gentoo hosts, which makes downloads extremly slow as you get a random kde server somwhere on the wrong side of the planet. Got my 4 language packages 8fi en tw se) from download.au.kde.org and download.tw.kde.org with an avarage speed of 1.5kb/s. Compared to the host where most of the Gentoo stuff is downloaded (in my case trumpetti.atm.tut.fi), this isn't even 1/100 of the speed. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge kde-base/kde-i18n Actual Results: Downloading from download.au.kde.org and download.tw.kde.org at a speed of 1.5kb/s Expected Results: Downloading from trumpetti.atm.tut.fi or another host in europe, at a speed at least 200kb/s. Gentoo should host all the KDE packages.
this is by design since the KDE language packages take up a significant amount of space and KDE already has a significant mirror infrastructure in place. We may look at changing this policy in the future. marking as later.
