Description Michael Warnock 2004-01-16 08:26:16 UTC
On two gentoo systems Zope (latest unmasked and latest masked: 2.6.1 and 2.6.2-r1) never responds to most attempts to connect to it. The proccesses dont crash and there is no associated output in the event log. The only difference I'm aware of between these systems and ones on which Zope works is that nptl was in the use flags from stage1. Searching for zope and nptl on google turns up a lot of problems with zope on RH9, but none that I found address this problem specifically or had any other seemingly useful suggestions.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.start zope
2.go to relavent url (ie localhost:8080)
3.it almost always times out, but I occasionally get a quick response like theres nothing wrong- if you do, just try reloading or following any links
Actual Results:
I get no http response (not even any headers). There is no output in the zope
event log.

Expected Results:
produced whatever page it was asked for

I found one other person with this problem on the gentoo forums- search for
zope and nptl to find our thread (which doesnt really include any more info
than this bug report as of now)

please try out zope-2.6.3
Comment 2 Michael Warnock 2004-01-19 12:43:05 UTC
I tried zope-2.6.3 by copying the 2.6.2-r2 ebuild (using default of python2.1). Exactly the same behavior was observed. I'm backing off from NPTL for now, but I have an NPTL installation to test with if someone has more suggestions.
To summarize, I've now tried all combinations of zope between vers 2.6.0 and 2.7.0b4 with python2.1 - 2.3 (2.3 doesnt build with any of the 2.6 zopes and 2.7 doesnt build with <2.3). All the 2.6 combos that function exhibit this bug on my NPTL system and not on the others. 2.7 doesnt seem to have the bug, but the mysqlDA is broken (probably the first of many breakages) so I cant use it.

what was the problem with zope 2.7 and zmysqlda?

we are very interested in marking zope 2.7 stable very soon after it's release because it will support python 2.3

well, it's an upstream bug and will be fixed in 2.7.0, so -> close
