When using nvidia-drivers-275.09.07, KDE 4.7.0 disables all compositing effects because they cause kwin to crash.  Downgrading nvidia-drivers back to 270.41.19 restores functionality.

Nope.  Compositing still crashes with 285.05.09-r1.

nvidia-drivers-270.41.19 was just removed from the portage tree, and this was the last version that works properly for me.  Can somebody please follow up on this bug?

I figured out what the problem was: versions of nvidia-drivers between 275 and 290 puke if /tmp is mounted with the noexec option.  >=290.03 is okay.

You will have poor performance if /tmp is mounted noexec with newer versions as well.
