Yes, this compiles cleanly on a server with gcc-x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-4.5.3-vanilla. Oddly enough recompiling it with the hardened version results in a MySQL that will start InnoDB (and reflects so in its logs), but which start-stop-daemon consistently fails to find the pid file for.
Which version of the init script package are you using? And did you fully convert the conf.d formats for the new mysql init scripts?
