vte-0.11.10 failed to emerge, apparently while running the Makefile in the vte-0.11.10/python directory. I have lost the exact error message, but it complained that it cannot link against -lvte. This would occur when I ran "emerge gnome" and it reached the vte stage of the emerge, and also when I attempted to "emerge vte." I resolved this problem on my system by going to the vte-0.11.10 build directory under /var/tmp/portage/vte-0.11.10 and running "make && make install" by hand; then running "emerge vte" once more. This is the first time I have tried to emerge gnome from scratch on this particular machine. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge gnome -or- emerge vte from scratch. Actual Results: The emerge session for vte failed with an unexpected error, indicating that it could not link the library indicated by the compiler flag "-lvte" Expected Results: vte should have compiled and installed. I was running nothing other than dhcpcd, sshd, and the stock set of background processes that Gentoo installs by default. The computer the problem occurred on is a stock Dell Latitude C810. I was using the built-in 3COM ethernet adapter. I am running kernel 2.4.20-gentoo-r8, and I also have the nvidia kernel module installed.
attach the output of the breaking build and paste your 'emerge info'

@ reporter, no reply to @2 so closing INVALID (read NOTABUG, i can't say this is a bug without further evidence) @ robby, different problem, different bug . Open a new bug and attach the _full_ output, you miss the actual useful info in this c&p.

Well, I made it quick and dirty. I took a binary package, installed it, and reemerged vte. Works. But we should find a solution. Johnny
