genkernel compiled in deprecated ATA/ATAPI/IDE support when installing from a minimal cd downloaded and burned 2011-08-30 and a portage snapshot from 2011 09 02. As a result, my /dev is populated with /dev/hdx instead of /dev/sdx. As suggested I am filing this bug against genkernel. System is an older Compaq Presario, AMD Sempron, PATA drives, 2 hard drives, 2 operating systems (Gentoo, obviously, and WinXP).
No need to cc the arch. Please include emerge --info and the versiom of genkernel. Thanks

This report is against genkernel 3.4.16. In the mean time genkernel 3.4.20 has been marked stable. Please try with 3.4.20 or 3.4.28 and re-open the bug if you still experience this problem. Closing.
