Description Prince George 2011-09-11 12:44:42 UTC
I have my laptop vaio-VGN-BZ16 installed with gentoo linux 2.6.39 kernel with KDE 4.
My /sys/devices/platforms shows both sony-laptop and sonypi ( i don't know whether both are installed)
dmesg lists these:
sonypi command failed at drivers/char/sonypi.c : sonypi_call1 (line 654)
sonypi command failed at drivers/char/sonypi.c : sonypi_call1 (line 665)
sonypi command failed at drivers/char/sonypi.c : sonypi_call1 (line 667)
sonypi command failed at drivers/char/sonypi.c : sonypi_call1 (line 654)
sony-laptop: Sony Notebook control Driver v0.6

When i press by brightness control fn keys (fn+f5, fn+f6) , KDE applet "shows" increase/decrease but there is actually no brightness adjustment.

when these brightness fn keys are pressed in tty console i get mesg:
acpid: client 9854[0:0] has disconnected

What could be the problem?

Reproducible: Always

Hi,

try to disable FB_UVESA, and enable KMS related to your graphic card driver.
See instructions on the official guide for that.

http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/xorg-config.xml#doc_chap2

I had a similar problem and I've solved disabling uvesafb and enabling KMS on intel.

By the way, as regard the advanced features, it would be great if an ebuild for the following sony-laptop-zseries driver would be available.
https://gitorious.org/sony-laptop-zseries
https://launchpad.net/~sony-vaio-z-series

Cheers,

Flavio
