I have my laptop vaio-VGN-BZ16 installed with gentoo linux 2.6.39 kernel with KDE 4. My /sys/devices/platforms shows both sony-laptop and sonypi ( i don't know whether both are installed) dmesg lists these: sonypi command failed at drivers/char/sonypi.c : sonypi_call1 (line 654) sonypi command failed at drivers/char/sonypi.c : sonypi_call1 (line 665) sonypi command failed at drivers/char/sonypi.c : sonypi_call1 (line 667) sonypi command failed at drivers/char/sonypi.c : sonypi_call1 (line 654) sony-laptop: Sony Notebook control Driver v0.6 When i press by brightness control fn keys (fn+f5, fn+f6) , KDE applet "shows" increase/decrease but there is actually no brightness adjustment. when these brightness fn keys are pressed in tty console i get mesg: acpid: client 9854[0:0] has disconnected What could be the problem? Hi, try to disable FB_UVESA, and enable KMS related to your graphic card driver. See instructions on the official guide for that. http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/xorg-config.xml#doc_chap2 I had a similar problem and I've solved disabling uvesafb and enabling KMS on intel.
