Description Chris Paulson-Ellis 2004-01-14 03:39:51 UTC
The available ebuild for vnc v4b4 (see bug 38153) builds the Xvnc X-server without the RENDER extension. Since vnc v4 is based on XFree86 4, it would be nice to include this extension so that (for example), GTK2 apps don't say:

Xlib: extension "RENDER" missing on display ":1.0".

Reproducible: Always

When upstream implements it it will be available.

In using REALvnc 4.1.2-r4... I find that the server isn't dealing with render extensions properly. The way it manifests itself is with one KDE app that I dearly love... namely KNODE, sometimes on drawing knode screen I get horizontal bars on the upper portion of the kde window. I'm running KDE 3.5.8 here...

Doing some serious googleing I find that this is an OLD bug from 2004!! On the RealVnc website, in the forums, it's talked about but never mentioned as fixed.

By dumping the realvnc server and subbing tightvnc, the render problem goes away... Ugly work around. Anyone know of an actual fix for RealVnc's sever?
