Description christobzr 2011-08-29 13:30:50 UTC
In this guide, the user is asked to look for important information in a log, with the following command :

tail -f /var/log/messages | grep "ACPI event"

However this seems syslog-ng specific. I had metalog, but when I discovered the necessary log was missing, I installed klogd. klogd it would seem does not provide this log either (it didn't by default on my system anyhow, despite the configuration appearing to specify to log to this file), so it was after much trouble that I ended up with syslog-ng.

I think the docs here should at least mention that if you don't have syslog-ng, you may need to look elsewhere for the necessary info.

FYI AFAICS metalog puts the "messages" log here : /var/log/everything/current

I suspect this same issue exists elsewhere in the docs.

Reproducible: Always

Logfile inspection isn't necessary anymore in the new power management guide.
