When emerge finds old versions of libraries (e.g. for gmp or mpfr) and tells me about revdep-rebuild, it also gives me a command to delete the old library, saying "Here is a copy & paste for the lazy". While I understand it and don't find it offensive, I still think it's slightly annoying. Laziness is what drives us to be more efficient and brings technological progress, but it still sounds bad. I wonder if you could rephrase it? Reproducible: Always
Another idea is to have revdep-rebuild delete the library after completing the rebuild successfully (perhaps with an additional command-line option)
This message is from preserve_old_lib_notify in eutils.eclass.
This is a joke.
In which package and version is it fixed? I understand that the message is kind of a joke, but it was getting really old.
it's fixed as soon as you run on your system: emerge -u humor
That's not very funny, I think it is you who need an upgrade. Anyway, if that's your position, then the proper status is "WONTFIX" rather than "FIXED".
whatever makes you stop commenting and wasting time
Rude and unprofessional conduct from a Gentoo developer will not encourage me to stop commenting. Please refer to http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/devrel/handbook/handbook.xml?part=3&chap=2 : One should try to not be rude, abusive or impolite under any circumstances. Sometimes, just one sarcastic comment can change the tone to the reader. If you think you might give somebody a bad as a result of your comment, and if you really need to say it, make sure people understand that you are not trying to be offensive. Please remember that you are an official representative of Gentoo. In this capacity, you are expected to maintain a certain level of professionalism and courtesy in your day-to-day interactions with users and other developers.
if you can't handle jokes, then perhaps this is not the best place for you
It looks like this is fixed now (in the portage tree, eutils.eclass as Zac explained) Happy to see there are some intelligent people overe there too, not just assholes who think they're funny.
