Description greenbean127 2011-08-24 16:46:54 UTC
when I launch simple-scan from the terminal, I click 'scan' to scan a document, I immediately get the following output in the terminal :

** (simple-scan:9914): WARNING **: Unable to disable compression, please file a bug

Aside from this output from the terminal, simple-scan seems to be working perfectly. I can scan images, save them as a .pdf, and open the .pdf's in other applications. The application runs normally and does not hang. It should be noted though that I came across this problem while trying to manipulate pdf's in pdfshuffler. See gentoo bug 380429.

I found on debian's bug site that the same problem had been reported with pdfshuffler using only simple-scan pdf's. I was able to confirm that my pdfshuffler issue is limited to those pdf which I created with simple-scan. I am uncertain if the problems are related but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.launch simple-scan from terminal
2.click 'scan' button to scan a document

Actual Results:
simple-scan appears to work just fine. The image is scanned, saved in the manner and location of my choice. I do however receive the above mentioned output within the terminal itself.

Expected Results:
scan document or image with no issues.

They probably meant you should file a bug upstream.
Comment 2 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2011-09-11 22:34:30 UTC
Yes, please report this to upstream

Thanks
Comment 3 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2011-09-12 16:01:41 UTC
And since it looks to cause no other problems than getting this message in terminal, please report this directly to upstream -> https://bugs.launchpad.net/simple-scan
Comment 4 greenbean127 2011-09-13 05:41:18 UTC
There actually are other problems other than error messages. The resulting corrupted pdf is not able to be manipulated by pdfshuffler. I am not certain if any other software has issues handling the created pdf files, but pdfshuffler sure does have issues.
Comment 5 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2011-09-13 11:12:34 UTC
Well, that is bug 380429, no? :)

Maybe it's related with https://bugs.launchpad.net/simple-scan/+bug/741628
