The Fedora people seem to have patches available to enable EFI support:

Could we get these into Gentoo so we can boot GRUB Legacy on EFI systems?

if you're talking about grub1, that's up to Robin

if you're talking about grub2, it's already in the tree supporting efi

I'm not going to take them. Move to GRUB2.
