I think it would be nice to have a one-line warning message when someone emerges a package assigned to maintainer-needed@gentoo.org. This will draw some attention and maybe more volunteers step up and take care of it. Something like "This package has no maintainer and it might be deleted from portage. If you want to proxy maintain it, contact proxy-maintain@gentoo.org"
We will use proxy-maint@gentoo.org instead.
so any progress on that? does the request make sense?
It feels a bit like this would be nagging the users. The user will already get a warning if an installed package gets masked by treecleaners, and packages that are assigned to maintainer-needed aren't necessarily removed unless there are bugs and nobody steps up to fix them.
Yeah, probably posting a message remembering people how to help when a bug against a maintainer-needed is filled is enough :/
Ok, closing as WONTFIX then
