I was going to look into this, however something odd happened here. It's telling me I don't have mod_php installed here, and I *KNOW* I do...

# emerge -p mod_php

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild  N    ] dev-php/mod_php-4.3.4-r2
[ebuild  N    ] dev-php/php-4.3.4-r2

Not sure if this has something to do with the error, but thought I'd point it out.

Since new dev-libs/libxslt-1.1.1 breaks old mod_php this is BAD
this host is without php support now! :-((((

/etc/init.d/apache start ....
...
Cannot load /etc/apache/extramodules/libphp4.so into server: libxsltbreakpoint.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

is there any workaround?????

Same error here:

# emerge -pv mod_php

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

!!! ERROR: dev-php/mod_php-4.3.4-r2 failed.

Oddly, adding debug to my USE flags makes it get past this part, at least (I haven't let it finish building with debug):
# USE="debug" emerge -v mod_php
Calculating dependencies ...done!
>>> emerge (1 of 1) dev-php/mod_php-4.3.4-r2 to /
>>> md5 src_uri ;-) php-4.3.4.tar.bz2
>>> md5 src_uri ;-) php-4.3.2-fopen-url-secure.patch
 * Installing in SLOT=2
>>> Unpacking source...
(here is where I abort with ctrl-c)

Oh hell I'll have a go:

# emerge -vp mod_php

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild  N    ] dev-php/mod_php-4.3.4-r2  +apache2 -X +crypt -curl -firebird -flash -freetds -gd -gd-external +gdbm -imap -informix -ipv6 -java -jpeg -ldap -mcal -memlimit +mysql -nls -oci8 -odbc +pam -pdflib -png -postgres -qt +snmp +spell +ssl -tiff +truetype +xml2 -yaz +berkdb
[ebuild  N    ] dev-php/php-4.3.4-r2  -X +crypt -curl -firebird -flash -freetds -gd -gd-external +gdbm -imap -informix -ipv6 -java -jpeg -ldap -mcal -memlimit +mysql -nls -oci8 -odbc +pam -pdflib -png -postgres -qt +snmp +spell +ssl -tiff +truetype +xml2 -yaz +berkdb +ncurses +readline

There was at least a 2 minute pause for me after the secure.patch line:

# emerge -v mod_php
Calculating dependencies ...done!
>>> emerge (1 of 2) dev-php/mod_php-4.3.4-r2 to /
>>> md5 src_uri ;-) php-4.3.4.tar.bz2
>>> md5 src_uri ;-) php-4.3.2-fopen-url-secure.patch

!!! ERROR: dev-php/mod_php-4.3.4-r2 failed.
!!! Function dyn_setup, Line 466, Exitcode 1
!!! pkg_setup function failed; exiting.

fixed in CVS.
it's a new portage bug that I've put in a workaround for.
