Emerging auctex on my ~amd64 system fails with the error message:

After (as a normal user) unpacking the sources of auctex on a temporary directory and running "/configure" and "make", emerge succeeded in installing the package.

I cannot reproduce this, but does changing the ebuild as in attached patch fix the problem for you?
