After install of Gentoo Linux I rebooted. When I enter "root" at the username login promt and press "Enter" I get this error: login: PAM Failure, aborting: Critical error - immidiate abort So, I cannot login into the system. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Enter "root" or any other username at the username login promt 2.Press "Enter" 3. Actual Results: I got this message: login: PAM Failure, aborting: Critical error - immediate abort Here is log messages from tty12, related to this problem: Jan 10 07:33:16 netmon login[15115]: PAM _pam_init_handlers: no default config /etc/pam.d/other Jan 10 07:33:16 netmon login[15115]: PAM error reading PAM configuration file Jan 10 07:33:16 netmon login[15115]: PAM pam_start: failed to initialize handlers Jan 10 07:33:16 netmon login[15115]: Couldn't initialize PAM: Critical error - immediate abort
I have also ls'ed /etc/pam.d (booted from LiveCD and mounted all partitions) It seems, that it misses some files there: login, other, passwd, shadow, etc. The only file in /etc/pam.d is sshd
can you still reproduce that with the latest livecd?
No, it's gone! :)
