Description Brant Gurganus 2004-01-09 23:20:25 UTC
The kernel configurator will not work, giving the message:

The kernel configuration could not be read due to the following error:
/usr/src/linux/arch/i386/config.in, line 55:

#
^parse error

Either your kernel sources contain invalid configuration rules or you just found a bug in the KDE Kernel Configurator.

Reproducible: Didn't try
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Emerge the latest stable kernel, compile, and install it with genkernel.
2. Emerge and set up KDE.
3. Use the KDE Kernel Configurator in KDE's Control Panel.
Actual Results:
The error message already given appears.

Expected Results:
The kernel configurator should work.

Since genkernel gave no apparent issues while compiling, I would assume the
kernel sources are okay.

For me with KDE 3.3 and Kernel 2.6.8 it prints the following message:

"The kernel configuration could not be read due to the following errors:
cannot open /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/config.in for reading
Linux kernel versions 2.5 and above are not yet supported.

Either your kernel sources contain invalid configuration rules or you just found a bug in the KDE Kernel Configurator."

I think your problem may already be reported upstream at http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=52059 or http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=64372

Gentoo cannot do anything about that, you'll have to ask the KDE-Developers to fix this.
