with the truetype flag set, the current xfree ebuilds will manually install the ms "core" fonts. at minimum, this should be changed to a depend on media-fonts/corefonts. this would get rid of duplication of maintenance and remove the MSttfEULA license from xfree. personally, i think the corefonts should not be installed at all with xfree, considering the following excerpt of use.desc: truetype - Adds support for FreeType and/or FreeType2 fonts
I agree. Perhaps with 4.3.0-r4 this will be removed. I believe they are installed in xfree 4.3.0-r3 because the various *fonts ebuilds weren't available in portage. Now that corefonts, freefonts, et al. have been added, this can and should be removed.
yes, the fonts were originally added to the xfree ebuild because the sep font packages did not exist i personally added the corefonts one for unrelated reasons
Who did actually use the USE flag truetype for Microsoft's fonts? After all, isn't truetype meant for FreeType support? P.S.: Yes, I also think they should be removed from xfree, not only because of the license, they also have a horrible rendering when sub-pixel is turned on.
Fixed in 4.3.0-r6.
