This bug does NOT fix Bug #375615, however, please consider adding this driver to portage. At the same time, I ask to unmask nvidia-drivers > 275.09.07 as the driver bug in question currently only affects GNOME 3 (which IS masked). Reproducible: Always
I don't know where you got the idea it only happens with GNOME 3.0, but it happens with a lot of other systems including GNOME 2.32, which is stable. If you want to unmask it, just do it locally in /etc/portage/package.unmask
I don't know, but please enlighten me with appropriate bug reports as I do have a properly working Gnome 2.32 system with no problems at all using nvidia drivers 275.21 (actually, two rather different systems). However, I fully agree to you, that the according driver ebuilds should be masked if there are problems with stable packages in the portage tree.
Yeah I'm definitely getting that bug with <gnome3 (gdm 2.32.1-r1), see the comments in bug #375615 for more confirmations. Sad to hear this update doesn't fix it :/
NVIDIA 280.13 is officially stable release. Please update portage tree. :)

This update is needed to support xorg server 1.11.
(In reply to comment #6) > This update is needed to support xorg server 1.11. I have to withdraw that comment. While this release brings preliminary support for xorg-server 1.11 and is crash free, things behave strangely and glxgears does not work. Nvidia has a more recent beta release, which is version 285.03. glxgears works under that, but it is still somewhat glitchy. You need IgnoreABI to make it work. Of you forget to turn IgnoreABI on, xorg messages will display warnings about the possibility of things behaving strangely with it on, which is an apt description of what happens.
I asked Aaron about the xorg-1.11 support and he told me it was an error from their internal dev build in the README file, the current 280.13 and 285 do not support 1.11, it will be added with the next release in some weeks.
In the tree but masked, you can use it if you'd like.
